Summary of the event-
On 17th October 2024, IMS Ghaziabad’s Department of Management, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Sahibabad and the Ghaziabad Management Association (GMA), organized an Expert Talk on The Sino-Indian Relationship: Conflict and Cooperation. The keynote speaker, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Rakesh Sharma (Retd.), a highly decorated officer of the Indian Army (PVSM, UYSM, AVSM & VSM), shared his extensive knowledge and insights into the complex dynamics between India and China.
The session opened with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Singh, Director of IMS Ghaziabad, setting the tone for a thoughtful and analytical discussion. Lt. Gen. Sharma’s expert talk covered key areas of geopolitical tension and potential avenues for cooperation between India and China, especially given the current and historical challenges faced by both nations.
The event also featured a Q&A session, providing students and participants an opportunity to interact directly with Lt. Gen. Sharma, delving deeper into topics such as border disputes, military strategies, economic ties, and diplomatic efforts. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rahul Agrawal, Executive Director of GMA, followed by the National Anthem and a group photograph.
Learning Outcomes:
A comprehensive understanding of the historical and current conflicts between India and China, with a focus on territorial disputes, military engagements, and strategic interests in the region.
The talk highlighted areas where India and China could work together, such as economic partnerships, climate change, and regional stability, providing students with a balanced view of how adversarial relationships can still foster cooperation in certain domains.
Students were exposed to military strategies, defense policies, and national security concerns related to India’s approach to handling the Sino-Indian relationship.
Students learned about the various mechanisms available for conflict resolution, including dialogue, international mediation, and cooperation in multilateral institutions.
The talk encouraged students to critically assess global issues and think from a broader, global perspective.
