Business Strategy: Video Case

Case-based learning (CBL) is an established approach used across disciplines where students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, promoting higher levels of cognition. The cases present a disciplinary problem or problems for which students devise solutions under the guidance of the instructor.Keeping this in mind, a business strategy was discussed, by Prof Kapil Mohan, using a video on popular Television show Shark Tank where aspiring entrepreneurs make business presentations to a panel of five "shark" investors, who then choose whether to invest as business partners.
In the case, a lady pitched her new and novel product to sharks and asked for investment in her firm for 5% stake. Students do a small role play and put themselves in the shark shoes and decide that whether they will invest in the organization or not. Students understands the concepts of buy-outs, negotiations and business strategy. All the aspiring managers enjoyed the session and were able to connect these academic topics with real-world societal issues and applications
