Guest Lecture on "Consumer Rights and Affairs"

"A Brand Is No Longer What We Tell the Consumer It Is ? It Is What Consumers Tell Each Other It Is"

Every day is a new chance to learn and grow. Keeping the same in mind, Department of Management Studies at IMS Ghaziabad University Courses Campus organized a Guest Lecture on "Consumer Rights and Affairs" for BBA second year students (Batch 2018-21) on January 10, 2020 (Friday). The lecture was delivered by eminent speaker Ms. Deepika Sur and Ms. Ranjeet Kaur from National Consumer Helpline, Indian Institute of public Administration IP Estate, Delhi. The speakers were heartily welcomed by Dr. Geeti Sharma, Chairperson BBA program and Dr. Kumar Saurav, Head - Marketing Specialization through an Eco-friendly Sapling and Memento as a token of gratitude, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Geeti Sharma wherein ma'am captivated the young minds and shared her insights on Consumer Awareness & the need to be a more responsible consumer in the present scenario.

The objective of this lecture was to aware the students about consumer rights and responsibilities as they both go hand-in-hand. The guest lecture was organized to clear the doubts of millennial about consumer affairs. The session started by a video titled "NAYA DAUR" whose main motive is to make consumer aware about the changing dynamics. Ms. Deepika sur discussed about the Consumer Protection Act 1986 and also gave the students various insights about Consumer Protection Act, 2019 which will be soon going to be implemented. Ms. Ranjeet Kaur discussed about the various consumer sectors like- Electronic Gadgets, Digital Transaction and Food Safety. She also told the students about various common complaint that they redress daily. Later they discussed the responsibility of consumer by a video of Ministry of Consumer Affairs followed by questions and answer session. The session was very interactive and a great learning experience. The key takeaways from the lecture were:

Consumer Protection Act provides consumer various rights including right to safety, heard, etc.

Enhance awareness about various forums for speedy recovery and redressal of consumer disputes setup by Government of India

As a consumer: The responsibility is to check various marks like hallmark, ISI and agmark and so on

Aware about phishing, fraud site and mails that promise us to pay any sum of money

The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Marketing Specialization Head - Dr. Kumar Saurav, wherein he extended his heartful gratitude to both the Guests for gracing the occasion and sharing their impeccable experience with the students. Sir also, thanked Prof. Aastha Sawhney for working 24*7 for organizing the event and Master of Ceremony - Ayushi Sharma and the entire marketing society for making the event a grand success. The session ended with the pursuit of holistic development of future performers and creating well rounded value-based individuals.
